Inver Colpa Rowing Club Drogheda was established in 2011 after a successful charity row from the Isle of Man that year.
The club has since then been affiliated to the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation and has grown in size and experience ever since.
The name Inver Colpa derives from ancient Irish folklore and language. ‘Inver’ being the anglicised version of the Gaelic word Inbhear, meaning inlet, while ‘Colpa’ derives from Colpa of the Sword who was an ancient swordsman son of the Milesian’s. He was drowned at Mornington trying to land his boat and is buried in the ringfort behind the old church in Colpe.
The four founding members of the club are Martin Murphy, Stuart Heslin, Dessie McDonald and Robert Finglas.
